Start your year with a spiritual power boost (Part 4 of the New Year transition series)

This is part four of a multipart series on how to consciously transition into the new year.

Although the solar calendar marks the start of the new year on 1st January, The Lunar New Year (based on the closest new new moon to the beginning of Spring), falls between January 21st and February 21st each year and in many communities around the world preparations are underway right now. I like to see this as a second start!

The conscious completions I wrote about in the previous blog in this series, require effort and focus as they involve many endings.  This is natural cycle of life, which requires death for rebirth.  As you complete and conclude, space is naturally created for regeneration. The space that gets created is extremely powerful and incredibly energizing.

Once you have completed your endings, here’s how you can give yourself a spiritual power boost to create powerful beginnings:

  • Power boost #1 Truth

Tell the people who matter to you most how much they mean to you. Talk to them about your shared vision for your life, and explore how you want to be with each other in the year ahead.  Talk about what worked and what didn’t work in the last year.  Share the qualities you love most in them.

  • Power boost #2 Acknowledgment

Acknowledge anyone who has supported you this year, your family, friends, team, support network.  Anyone who has contributed to your growth and achievements.  Send a card, give them a call, film a video or simply give them a hug. Let them know how much you appreciate them.

  • Power boost #3 Gratitude

The best boost I know!  Spend time reflecting on what you’re grateful for.  Journal it, paint it, create a photo slide show or simply meditate on all you are grateful for.  Include the challenges as well as the gifts, there’s always hidden gratitude gold in the turbulence.

  • Power boost #4 Space

This power boost is to book in some time off for 2019.  Create some sacred white space in your diary now.  Pencil in long weekends with friends and loved ones.  Book in your holiday time (I recommend a break once a quarter, even if it’s a stay-cation), plan some special me time just for you – yes your breaks go in first!

  • Power boost #5 Dream

Spend some time allowing yourself to dream.  Let your deepest desires surface.  Go for a walk in an inspiring location, perhaps an art gallery, a garden, a secret woodland, a coastal path or get up high for some perspective, and then let your imagination out to play.  What would make your year truly magical?  Who or what is already in place to support this?  What else do you need to breathe life into your dreams?

  • Bonus boost!

Find yourself a special box or tin or jar.  It can be beautiful or practical, big or small.  Whatever feels right for you.  Over the course of the year add little notes every time something happens that you are grateful for.  Anything that is memorable, makes you smile, warms your heart.  No matter how big or small.  In twelve months time, you will have a gorgeous gift to open and reflect on all the precious moments that make up your year.

I hope you have enjoyed this New Year transition, I wanted to leave you with some words I personally find powerful from T.S. Eliot who writes:

Last year’s words belong to last year’s language. Next year’s words await another voice. To make an end is to make a beginning.

Wishing you a wonderful year ahead.

With love,
