Life is not linear

This is a tantalising time of year, a fresh start so full of promise. As the new year begins it is natural to focus forwards, but have you noticed when you do that often you feel the tension of not being ‘there’ yet?

So today, I wanted offer a little reminder, which is to remember where you started from.

Now is a time to go gently. If you watch what is happening in Nature, she is not bursting forwards yet, it is still a Yin season so she is staying resolute and still. Gathering strength and nourishment for when the time comes to bloom.

For now, there’s no need to push forwards, instead go inward like the season and look lovingly at where you have been. Retrace your steps, the highs and lows, the triumphs and turmoils. Remember what has been lost and gained and take none of it for granted. Each step you have taken was meant for you, precisely as it was.

Life is not linear, it progresses slowly, it goes deep and it is very often messy. Sometimes it’s hard to know you’ve made progress in life at all until you look back and see where you have come from.

So trust me on this, revisiting old ground will help you get more rooted; seeing old patterns with fresh eyes will awaken you; revisiting unhealthy experiences will strengthen you so you can take a stand now and for the future. Don’t be afraid to look back, it might be the most progressive thing you can do for yourself right now.
