I remember the moment these words tumbled out of me, a poem needing to captured. They were a record of a moment in time that was deeply connecting. I shared the poem with Hannah, the friend who inspired them, and she asked me to publish them. You can read more about Hannah’s courageous journey here.
I held her in my arms today, as we looked death squarely in the eyes.
“I’m scared” she whispered.
Pale-faced. Body trembling.
“I searched for him all my life.
He’s here now.
I don’t want to leave him.
Time, distorted and elastic.
Seconds last an eternity.
Days merge into minutes.
Grief and love.
One temporary, the other eternal.
